In the US, Evangelical Christians are the most resistant to the pandemic vaccines, with a number applying to be exempt for religious reasons. As Americans, we have the right. But as followers of Jesus, is it the right thing to do?
“It really depends on the individual and the moral witness that they’re called to make on earth. And I have a lot of respect for the people I’ve spoken to,” says Attorney Christine Pratt, who focuses on the vaccine mandate for the First Liberty Institute, a Christian religious liberty non-profit.
But Christian theologian, author, and Christians and the Vaccine founder Curtis Chang believes Christians are called to take the vaccine because of their faith. He says it comes down to what Jesus said was the second greatest commandment: to love others as ourselves.
“And that, I think,” he says, “is the fundamental reason why every Christian, unless there are some very, very severe medical complications, should be taking the vaccine, because we take the vaccine for others.”
If you oppose COVID-19 vaccines, this eight-minute podcast includes suggestions from both Christine Pratt and Curtis Chang to help you discover if your objections are rooted in your faith in Jesus Christ.
