Abortion is on the Ballot this Election Year

A Family Life Newsmaker Interview

“The abortion industry has been very successful at using fear-mongering as a way to drive voters.” — Nicole Hunt

Two weeks from Tuesday, Americans will go to the polls to decide the 47th President of the United States.  Also that day, they will decide constitutional amendments that dramatically expand abortion access in 10 states.

In today’s feature report, Family Life News interviews Nicole Hunt, a policy analyst at “Focus on the Family” on why the abortion industry has been winning at the ballot box — and what pro-lifers can do to reverse the trend.

Attorney Nicole Hunt is a policy analyst for Focus on the Family. She joined Family Life’s Bob Price for an extended interview on the October 21 Noon Report.

“Issues in Education”

Retired school principal and superintendent Ralph Kerr joins us for the Monday Family Life News Feature “Issues in Education”.

This week:

  • Teacher shortages, already significant, are magnified by the number of immigrant children who entered the U.S. in recent years
  • School districts are hamstrung by the multiple languages spoken by their young newcomers, many of whom are not (yet) proficient in English
  • Whether public schools and parochial schools should compete together or have separate leagues and championships — That debate is renewed again
  • How will public schools be affected, depending on whether a majority of New York voters approve or vote against Proposition One on this fall’s ballots

Dr. Ralph Kerr founded the Teaching and Learning Institute, based in Houghton, NY.  TLI has its mission to influence Pennsylvania’s and New York’s public schools with increased involvement by people traditional family values and Judeo-Christian beliefs.

Vote Your Faith – Millions of Christians will sit out this fall’s elections

Vote Your Faith – Millions of Christians will sit out this fall’s elections

Millions of Christians not planning to vote this November, could shape election

The Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University study found that approximately 104 million people under the “people of faith” umbrella are not expected to vote this election, including 41 million Christians and 32 million of whom regularly go to church.

Read: Details of this latest research — and its implications.

Here is a Family Life Newsmaker Interview on the question of why so many people of faith sit out, letting others determine the directions of their government and their culture:

A Christian leader, named Chris Leader, is on a 100-day countdown to encourage evangelical Christians to register to vote this fall.

The “separation of church and state” isn’t in the U.S. Constitution, not in that form anyway.  But Chris Leader says many people of faith separate themselves from political and social involvement. His effort “Vote Your Faith” is trying to change that.

In this conversation with Family Life’s Greg Gillispie, Leader explains how some Christians are being intimidated, so they avoid voting, politicking, or even speaking out on the issues in the nation and in the local community. He points to Biblical motivation to get registered, plus how a better turnout of Christian voters could quickly solve many of the current problems in our culture.

Vote Your Faith offers inspiration, resources and tools to help improve the ratio of faithful Christians who participate in campaigns and elections. (Some surveys show that 25 to 33 percent of evangelicals stay away from the polls on Election Day).

As of the date of this Family Life Newsmaker Interview (9/05/2024), Chris Leader was about one-third of the way through his 100 Day Countdown to November 5th . He posts a new commentary each day.

Here are links to those (soon to be) 100 commentaries and the Vote Your Faith website.

Proposition One – Will New Yorkers add new rights to the State Constitution? – 10/08/24

Empire State legislators have asked New York’s voters to amend the State Constitution.

With a title of the “Equal Rights Amendment” it is getting broad support as a means to lock in abortion as a protected activity. However many pro-family advocates across the political spectrum are now expressing concern about how Proposal One’s wording could open the door to transgender procedures with no parental notification, endangers women’s sports, and could add voting rights for non-citizens. Western New York State Senator George Borrello also tells us that, if this is approved by a majority this fall, it will create big business for attorneys who will file many more lawsuits related to the new Constitutional protections.

Borrello is among the organizers for a public information forum on Prop One. That public meeting was Tuesday (October 8) in Corning, New York. He spoke Wednesday morning about the issues with Bob Price of Family Life News.

Capital Connection – Today’s PA & NY Issues

It’s our weekly Family Life News cultural/political/social roundtable, for the week of 9/27/2024

It’s “Capital Connection”, the Friday news feature from Family Life News.  Noon Report anchor Bob Price guides our ten-minute conversation, digging into the issues in our two states — and far beyond.

Christian advocates Jason McGuire and Michael Gere have commentary from the two capital cities on these major issues in the news:

  • NY’s regents pause consideration on policies for transgender inclusion in girls scholastic sports, but will such rules be back after the election?
  • Do voters realize that Proposition One may enshrine such gender diversity in the New York Constitution? What will the “Equal Rights Amendment” do to women’s rights, parental rights, and parental notifications about counseling and medical treatments for their children?
  • Thousands gathered in Harrisburg this week. What is happening in the battle over abortion regulations?
  • What do our watchdogs see as trends in legislative priorities this fall, swings in the 2024 election, and voters’ confidence in how the ballots are distributed and counted?

Our guests on most editions of “Capital Connection” are Jason McGuire, the executive director of the New York Families Foundation and New York Families Action, and Michael Geer, the president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute.
