Hometown Heroes – Kevin Keeley – Thrive Marriage – 05/02/23

Hometown Heroes – Kevin Keeley – Thrive Marriage – 05/02/23

This week on “Hometown Heroes”, meet Kevin Keeley of Spring Creek Lavender Farm in the Oneida County village of Remsen, New York.

They will host a Thrive Marriage Weekend August 11-12, 2023. Keeley says the wonderful dreams which people take into their marriages often are followed by couples’ harder times. There are always ways in which each couple — and each individual in a marriage can “tune in” to one another and live into joy and commitment

Facilitated by marriage experts Chris Bruno and Tracy Johnson, this two-day retreat will take you through four curated experiences that are key to developing marital belonging. Far more than learning tips and techniques, you will walk through the ReStory® marriage process and leave with more understanding, empathy, and a vision for how your marriage can flourish the way God intended.

Spring Creek Lavender has graciously decided to offer a special $25 discount for the weekend for Family Life listeners and website users. Use the coupon code “Family Life” when you go to thrivemarriageweekend.com

Inside Out – Children Win When the Marriage Takes Priority – 02/08/23

Inside Out – Children Win When the Marriage Takes Priority – 02/08/23

Parents can be tempted to make the children the family’s highest priority. But giving our children the best of our time and attention is not actually what’s best for them, according to Dr. Greg Smalley.

Smalley is an author and speaker who serves as vice president of Marriage at Focus on the Family. He says that your children benefit when you make your marriage the priority.

“When our marriage is healthy, everybody wins,” Smalley says.

Giving the marriage priority status means taking the time to stay up to date on your spouse’s hopes and feelings.  “We have to continually be rediscovering our spouse,” he says.

It also means making a habit of talking through the times you hurt each other along the way.   “We have to repair when we have arguments and when we have conflict and when we hurt each other,” Smalley says. “We’ve got to be willing to repair.”

Everyone in a family benefits when spouses commit to the work of deepening their marriage.  “I think if couples are pursuing each other, keeping current and re-discovering each other and then repairing when those conflicts happen, man, those two things alone are going to take us so far as far as staying connected in our marriage,” he says.

Real Answers – Money, Love, and Marriage – 02/01/23

Finances are often cited as the number-one stressor in marriages. How can money decisions instead become a source of strength for couples?

Christian counselor Christopher Anderson offers Biblical advice on how to keep the “love of money” from interfering with the love in marriage. Rather than trusting one’s own knowledge and viewpoints which feed into our spiritual battles, there are better perspectives through which spouses can honor God, honor each other, and put their household on a more-helpful financial footing.
