A six-year national study of threats, violence and vandalism aimed at churches and religious organization shows the danger spiked in 2023. This edition of Family Life’s “Faith Under Fire” feature invites back Arielle Del Turco for a second conversation. Today, we recap the results of that survey, but then go beyond the statistics to the causes and implications.

  • How do the current cultural perceptions of Christians affect how faith institutions see more threats and violence?
  • What trends are seen in what types of churches and entities are more likely to become targets, and should all religious groups band together to denounce anti-Christian hostility?
  • What advice does she have for Christians to make a positive influence on the surrounding culture?
  • Going to worship is safe, considering the 900+ incidents in six years compared to the millions of religious gatherings in that time. Still, what should leaders of congregations and faith-based networks learn from this study?

The “Real Answers” podcast from Family Life

Christian counselor Christopher Anderson offers insights for a unique group: those whose spouse has died. There is new research on how often those people get remarried. It happens more often later in life, and he says some of the most fruitful second marriages occur when both partners have lost their spouses.

If a widow or widower does feel a sense that a new marriage might be in their future, Anderson raises three key points:

  • Wait until you have properly processed the grief from the loss of your original spouse
  • Get advice from a pastor, counselor or Godly friend who knows you and your unique situation
  • Have a “non-negotiable list” on your values, background and goals

Anderson says those who do not feel a calling to get remarried don’t need to feel any pressure or need to go that direction. They will do well to get socially and religiously connected for other areas of their lives.

Bible Quizzing Nationals – Local youth on the way to Wisconsin – 4/16/24

Teams of teens and preteens from the Twin Tiers are among the young people from coast to coast who gather in the Wisconsin Dells this week for the Bible Quizzing Nationals.

What is Bible Quizzing?

Young people and their coaches invest large blocks of time to memorize large swaths of Scripture. At local, regional and national competitions, teams of five pop up out of their seats, answer questions based on the wording of a Bible verse, and quote the full verse — word for word.

Ten members of the local teams sponsored by Family Life Ministries gathered to answer Greg Gillispie’s questions about Bible Quizzing, the tournament process, and the personal benefits which come to those who pour time and effort into reading and studying God’s Word.

By the way, FLM sent four teams to Nationals in 2023, and two of those local teams placed in the Top Four!
