Family Life Interview – Wars in Ukraine & the Middle East – Mike Aleprete – 10/25/23

Family Life Interview – Wars in Ukraine & the Middle East – Mike Aleprete – 10/25/23

A global studies professor at a Pennsylvania Christian college sees geographic differences — but political parallels — between Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the aftermath of Hamas violence in southern Israel.

Doctor Mike Aleprete of Westminster College tells family life that it is a challenge for many in the American public to think long-term about international tensions. As an example, the international relations specialist says as Americans are focused on the Middle East, many heard nothing about the loss of civilian lives last week in a Ukrainian town:

Aleprete offers his analysis of both wars, comments on the anti-Israel protests which are popping up in the U.S. and elsewhere, and discusses governmental posturing and choices made by terror cells.

Aleprete also offered initial analysis of the attacks on Israel last week on our Family Life Noon Report. That interview is available here

Feature – Eight Days of Hope – Steve Tybor – 07/13/23

Eight Days of Hope started two decades ago, mobilizing volunteers for hurricane recovery work.

The organization this weekend will begin its latest annual projects in Buffalo, New York — and continue a major new ministry in Ohio. Crews from Eight Days will fan out to offer free home repairs to families which had applied earlier this year.

In an extended interview on today’s Family Life Noon Report, Bob Price asked founder Steve Tybor to talk about what God brought about throughout the 20 years, to preview the upcoming Buffalo work (July 15-22), and to highlight the new construction project which will create a multi-faceted campus for victims of sex trafficking who are ready to relaunch their lives with hope and freedom. While staying at these Safe Houses,

Eight Days of Hope serves as the hands and feet of Christ – providing light in the face of darkness, restoration in the face of destruction. This national organization responds to natural disasters and human-caused disasters across the country – helping to rebuild homes, communities, and lives.

Faith Under Fire: First Amendment protections for students and their parents

Parents are increasingly being ignored, targeted and attacked – for protecting the rights of their children in school settings. Family Life talked with a Christian attorney who says what is happening to the young people is even worse.

A 15-year-old student in a Clark County school district in Nevada was forced to perform a profanity-laced, sexually explicit, and obscene monologue before the entire class as a graded assignment. School officials then lied to the parents. Although the teen girl had been forced to say those words in front of her class the school board prevented the student’s mother from reading aloud those same words in a public meeting of adults.

Abigail Southerland of the American Center for Law and Justice explains the case for us, as well as the multiple efforts which the parents made to complain to the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. (The girl’s father had to do so virtually, as he was on a military deployment.)

A decision from the Federal Court is expected soon. Because of the First Amendment issues raised, there could be an appeal of the verdict, to address what the plaintiffs call compelled speech for the student and restricted speech for the parents.
